Andorra Flag History:
The national flag of Andorra was adopted in 1866. Previous to 1866 the flag consisted of a yellow left half and a red right half. The blue color bar was added and this addition meant both France and Spain were represented with two colors in Andorra's flag (red and blue for France; and red and yellow for Spain). The Principality of Andorra is a small landlocked principality in southwestern Europe, located between France and Spain.
The
Flag of Andorra was officially adopted on July 10, 1996. The National Flag of Andorra features three equal vertical bands of blue, yellow, and red. The national coat of arms centered in the yellow band of the Flag. Andorra Flag colors are said to represent Andorra’s independence from both France and Spain, as blue and red were taken from France, while red and yellow were taken from Spain.
Although the three vertical bars may at first appear to be of equal width, the center yellow bar is slightly wider than the other two so that the ratio of bar widths is 8:9:8. The overall flag ratio is 7:10. The motto at the bottom of the shield translates as ” Strength United is Stronger.” The Principality of Andorra is an independent republic in the Pyrenees, between France and Spain. It is one of the world’s oldest states.
The principality of Andorra has been under Franco-Spanish protection since 1278. The Country Was Governed by the Counts of Foix and the Bishops of Urgel. The colors of the national Flag of Andorra reflect both France: blue and red; and Spain: yellow and red. The Andorran coat of arms is placed in the middle of the yellow stripe in the Flag of Andorra. Like the colors of the flag, the coat of arms also depicts the areas on which Andorra has been dependent. The quartered shield represents Urgel by the crozier and miter, Foix by the three vertical red stripes, Catalonia by the four vertical red stripes and Béarn by the two cows. More details of
